Search API

The Search API uses a REST-RPC hybrid approach to accept requests expressed as HTTP argument/value pairs and respond with structured data in XML or JSON format. Search requests operate over a Lucene index of terms. The API is avilable from the Digital Discovery System (DDS), the Digital Collection System (DCS), and the NSDL Collection System (NCS).

Service features include:

• Textual search over XML records and related content
• Search fields for every element and attribute in the XML records
• Results sorted by relevance or any combination of lexical values found in the fields
• Search by collection
• Search by date ranges and values
• Search by lexical and numeric ranges and values
• Search by geospatial bounding box
• Search using relation search fields
• Faceted search
• Responses returned as XML or JSON
• Lucene query syntax
